Many people come to us carrying fear, hesitation, or even avoidance around dental care.
For a significant number of patients, this isn’t random; it’s rooted in a past experience that felt painful, rushed, overwhelming, or dismissive. Sometimes it’s physical discomfort. Other times it’s the feeling of not being listened to, or not fully understanding what was happening and why.
Whatever the origin, the result is often the same: anxiety that builds over time and makes even routine care feel difficult.

A different way of approaching care
Our trauma-aware approach is centered around understanding the full story of the human sitting in front of us, not just symptoms.
Rather than asking “what’s wrong here?”, we start with a different question: “what experiences have shaped where this patient is today, and what do they need in order to feel safe moving forward?”
This small shift allows us to move at a human pace, without judgment, and to focus on restoring both health and trust at the same time.
We use a collaborative approach to diagnosis (what we call co-diagnosis) and planning, which means you’re not being told what to do, you’re being included in the process of understanding your own oral health and options.

What to expect
More time, more clarity, more support
One of the advantages of our practice model is that it allows more space for communication before treatment begins. Your care is always dictated by what feels appropriate and comfortable for your situation, not by insurance.
We take time to listen first, to your experiences, your concerns, and what has made dental care feel difficult in the past, before making any recommendations. This foundation of understanding helps build confidence and creates a more grounded experience moving forward.
From there, we gather detailed clinical information, including imaging and photographs when appropriate, so we can clearly and accurately explain what we’re seeing.
Then we walk through everything together: what’s present, what it means, and what options exist, at a pace that feels manageable.

On the day of treatment
Before any procedure, we check in again, making space for questions, concerns, and any past experiences that may be coming up. We talk through what will happen step by step, so nothing feels unclear or unexpected.
Our priority is always comfort and predictability. We aim to make care as gentle and pain-free as possible, because technical skill only matters if a patient feels safe enough to receive it.
Moving forward
If dental care has felt stressful, avoidant, or emotionally loaded in the past, you’re not alone in that experience.
Our role is not to judge; it’s to help you move forward with clarity, care, and support at a pace that feels right (and sustainable) for you.
